I am so excited that I got selected by Old Navy for their freelance artist meet up event. Hopefully they will like my art and think my style fits their projects. I always have great passion in children's apparel, and I think my art style reflects that. Maybe they sees it in the same way? I am back to the blog! So busy for the past two months. Traveling, family reunion, moving...... after all I can sit in front of my computer and make some new cards. I have a friend named Angela, many of people called her "Lala." She is very passionate in many different fields. One of her biggest passion (beside Eason Chen, the HK singer) is "Food." She not just love to eat, She knows about food and cook very well. She published 2 books about food on 2008 and 2009. They are about how to cook and eat healthy. The first book called 吃出健康料理五堂課 and the second one called 不生病更要三低料理.
I met Lala when I was in Santa Barbara City College. That was a place that we all loved and had lots great memories. She often came over to my apartment to cook for me and answered all my question about cooking. She taught me a lot and we shared a lot fun time together. I promised her that I will do a portrait icon for her and this is it! Lala~ I hope you like it.

There are a lot good people I met and became good friends in my life, it's such a blessing. 2010 is my 10th year in United States. In this 10 years, I got lots good friends. Some of them are already move to different countries and we don't have much chance to meet often. However, when we catch up with each other, we still feel the friendship hasn't change a bit. There are also lots and lots of dear friends in Taiwan. Even though I only go back home most of time once a year, when we get together it's just like I never apart from them. There are good friends here in the California. It's so great we can always be there for each other. I truly love these friends and think they are the stars of my life.

This design is more soft and elegant. I like how light the blue is, I think it will be good for someone who like it subtle. I am not sure if the address font color is too light. Could be darken a little bit, maybe. But too strong will kill the color palate, I think.

The newest challenge on Minted.com is personalized note card + skinny wrap. A skinny wrap is a returning address label which you can wrap the left part to the back of the envelope. As an illustrator, I am used to making characters or props. In this challenge, fonts plays a major role on the design. This time I will have to think how to make a design simple but eye-catching. Almost all my friends in Taiwan called me by my last name. It's really intimate to me. It's like my nickname. My last name is 姜 (Chiang.) In simplified Chinese and Japanese Kanji, it means ginger. My friends Taco and Jully asked me to do an illustration with my last name and I came up with this one. My last name look like a dancing ginger, pretty cute, haha~

"2010." Are we live in the future now? When we were younger, 2010 only appears in the sci-fi movies and fictions, where we can see flying cars and robots everywhere. Actually in the present, I feel there are lots of technologies are really really futuristic, which we couldn't imaging in 15-20 years ago. With all these fancy technology which make our life much more convenient, what we need to take care now is more basic. We should pay more attention to our relationship with others, our mental and physical health. These are far more important than your mobile phone. A friend forward a list of things to do which I think we should keep in mind:

Health:

1. Drink plenty of water.

2 Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.

3. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants..

4 Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy

5. Make time to pray.

6. Play more games

7. Read more books than you did in 2009 .

8. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day

9. Sleep for 7 hours.

10. Take a 10-30 minutes walk daily. And while you walk, smile

Personality:

11. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. ( V: You really don't know what other people's journey. Don't be jealous or always try to compete, even tough you think you win, no one really cares.)

12. Don't have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive
present moment.

13. Don't over do. Keep your limits.

14. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

15. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip.

16. Dream more while you are awake

17. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need..

18. Forget issues of the past. Don't remind your partner with His/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin
your present happiness.

19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone Don't hate others.

20. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

21. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

22. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that
appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

23. Smile and laugh more.

24. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree...

Society:

25. Call your family often.

26. Each day give something good to others.

27. Forgive everyone for everything..

28. Spend time w/ people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.

29. Try to make at least three people smile each day.

30. What other people think of you is none of your business.

31. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.

Life:

32. Do the right thing!

33. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful

34. GOD heals everything.

35. However good or bad a situation is, it will change..

36. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

37. The best is yet to come..

38. When you awake alive in the morning, thank GOD for it.

Winter Fun Activity.

I grew up in a country which has warm weather most of the year, so seeing snow is always a exciting thing to me. The first snow experience was in Okayama, Japan. I went to a hot spring there. The first day of the trip was really cold and icy, and I can't describe how excited I was when I woke up in the morning on the second day and see lots snow everywhere outside the window. I had hot spring in the outdoor tub in the snow. My body was so warm and the snow felt on me, it was super relaxing and sweet. In that snow, I made some snowman, , named my snowman, ran in the snow, and ate some snow. Wow, it was just so much fun!

After move to San Francisco from Southern CA, I made snowboarding trip to the Lake Tahoe few times. It's very different kinda experience from the one in Japan. In Tahoe I do little snowboarding. By "little" I mean that I get really exhausted after couple times snowboard from top to bottom. I always end up sitting in the cafeteria for some hot soup and then play with snow outside to wait for all my friends finish. This holiday I will go Tahoe again. I am sure that I will have lots of fun with my dear friends and hopefully we can go have some nice buffet in Reno afterward!

"It's the most wonderful time of a year!" Maybe because of the Christmas carols keep playing on the radio and shops everywhere or just I am so enjoy the holiday, I just wanna keep singing this song. Recently I have lots chances to meet and hang out with friends, so I am having less time making art and update my blog. My friend Ivy is at my apartment right now. Right before she came, even though I don't have much time to do a new illustration, I made this photo card and would like to send to friends and family for the holiday. My lovely Mimi has a red nose and wish you have wonderful time for the Christmas!

Right after I graduated from art school (wow~ 2 years already,) I went back to Taiwan and print out my business card and postcard. They are for job interview and artist self promotional purpose. I still like them a lot. However, I am thinking to redesign my website and possibly design a different postcard and I can print out next time I go back to Taiwan. When I am looking back to my arts which were done while I was in school. They are a little weird. Probably my style is changing, but I think there is another reason. While in school, we have a lot and a lot of opinions for your art from other people. I am not saying critique is not a good thing, I think it's necessary. But all the opinion push you to change your art and design. The original vision you have in mind sometime will just be gone. Maybe it is what happen in real life. Your client and you are just have different vision of a design and you have to change your art to match their taste. Anyway, I am having fun designing cards everyday now and hopefully this will help me be more mature in style and skill.

This Is Our Lovely Hannah!

As Tammy's request, I made an illustration of her little baby girl Hannah. I am actually thinking something more useful, like she can print this design out as a card that they can use when they need it. Or they can print this out as a sticker, so when Hannah needs to go to day care or school and she can put this own her belongings. It will be very personal and sweet.

Hannah is a very funny little angel. She, Tammy and Chi-Chen lives in Champagne, Illinois. I don't get to see her often (actually just once,) but when Tammy put our conversation on the speaker phone, I could hear her laugh all the time. She is very sensitive to soundsI think. When I sing silly song or talk to her, I can tell that she actually knows and very happy. Tammy and her siblings are like my brother and sister since I was born. Because of them, I never feel lonely as an only child. Our families are friends and neighbor since my grandpa's generation. Now Hannah is the new baby girl in the new generation, we just cannot love her more!

Sometimes we stuck in the dark situation and our day will just seems so gloomy. It's unavoidable, so we just have to find a way to escape from that mood. Maybe you just have to try to think differently or not see it as a source of stress. Life is full of tasks that you have to deal with everyday. You might feel so busy and not having enough time to deal with all these, but the only thing you have to do is to overcome all of them. Enjoy the process and think it is just a step you need to go through and fulfill. After all, you will see the peaceful light in your inner self.

The theme is to create valentines card for the children to pass out at school or a Valentine's Day photo card for the families who didn't have chance to send out a holiday card. The rating is not starting yet, but you can go to the website and do the critique. It's so much fun to see varieties of style people have and create.

Birthday Wish.

It's my birthday AGAIN! Time flies like a jet. I still feel my last birthday wasn't too long ago. Anyway, since I am stepping to a new year of my life, I will start doing something new and make some changes. Hopefully this little change will help me with some self-achievement.
This blog I start now, Everyday Greeting, will be the place that I can show the art that I create to more people. Hopefully my art can get to see by more people.
